Welcome to Sally J. Pimentel Deaf & Hard of Hearing Center, where we are dedicated to enhancing the lives of individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing. We are thrilled to announce that our center has recently received a grant to implement a program aimed at bringing deaf awareness to area businesses. This initiative is an important step towards fostering inclusivity and creating a more accessible community for everyone.

Why Deaf Awareness Matters

Deaf awareness is crucial in promoting equal opportunities and improving communication between individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing and the general public. By raising awareness, we can break down barriers, challenge stereotypes, and create a more inclusive society.

The Grant Program

Thanks to the generous grant funding, Sally J. Pimentel Deaf & Hard of Hearing Center will be able to develop and implement a comprehensive program that focuses on educating local businesses about deaf culture, sign language, and communication strategies. This program will provide businesses with the necessary tools and knowledge to better serve and interact with individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing.

Program Components

1. Deaf Culture Workshops

In these workshops, participants will learn about the rich history and diverse culture of the deaf community. Topics covered will include common misconceptions, cultural norms, and awareness of deaf rights. The aim is to foster understanding and appreciation of deaf culture.

2. Sign Language Classes

Participants will learn basic vocabulary, essential phrases, and practical communication techniques to better serve their deaf or hard of hearing customers.

3. Communication Strategies

4. Accessible Environment Assessments
